Poaching
can be a really sensitive subject to some people, and to others, it just does
not matter. Poaching is a true crime-literally-that should not be taken
lightly, and I am here to prove that point. Many animals are poached everyday
and poachers obviously do not care because if they do they would not do it in
the first place. The poaching you are thinking of right now happens, but there
is also the type that is during an actual hunting season. You are not allowed
to kill a hen turkey or duck, and if you kill a doe and do not tag it, that is
poaching too, go ahead and try to argue with that. I want people to know what a
problem poaching is becoming, and that there are not enough animals for this to
continue because multiple species of elephant and tiger will go extinct.
Most
animals are poached for their meat, and poached meat is called bush meat, and
it is consumed in massive portions. Animals such as gorillas, mire cats, and
American Alligators are poached for their meat because it is supposed to be a
‘fantastic delicacy,’ but never the less, it is still poaching. Depending on
the type or cut of bush meat, the prices can have a significant price
difference, from $50.00 per lbs all the way up to $4,500.00 per lbs; it is okay
I did not believe it the first time either. Countries in Africa poach things
like the Silver Back Gorilla because it was how they grew up, but their laws
state that it is considered poaching, even if it is tradition. Bush meat is just a small portion of
poaching, there are many more issues to come, just wait until I have to say
next, it will blow your mind.
Bush
meat consumption is becoming more and more popular in countries all around the
world, and even America. If you kill a hen turkey, and eat it, that is bush
meat because it is poached meat, when I said bush meat is poached meat, I meant
anything that is poached. The most common type of bush meat that is consumed in
America is, believe it or not, deer because people poach deer and do not even
know it, unless you are an experienced hunter like me. Hunting is sport that
people take the wrong way when they are rookies, and they think they can kill
anything they see, but when you kill a doe and do not tag it, then you have a
problem. Experienced hunters also know their limits on how many ducks or doves
they can kill in a day, but that number changes from season to season, rookies
do not, and they can get in a whole lot of trouble when that happens. Another
animal that is poached frequently is the American Alligator, alligators can go
for big bucks depending on their size, and poachers sell for their hind and
meat, so alligators can go up to $500 if they are about 14 feet. Poachers have
no remorse and if you are a rookie hunter, know the limits and the laws, so you
do not get locked up for poaching.
Bush
meat is just one of the issues; the poaching itself is a true problem because
certain species of animals can go extinct if it does not end. In a country in Africa
there is a species of rhino that only has 60 left in the entire world, and
conservationist are doing their best to make them reproduce, so they do not go
extinct. Rhinos are poached for their horns, which are made of ivory, which can
go for $500 per lbs. All of the rhinos are in a safe, secluded area so they
cannot be poached, but the same does not apply for other rhinos that are
currently being poached, and left to die, with virtually no face. There is also
poaching of tigers, elephants, gorillas, and other animals that Asia and
America love, such as otters and cheetahs. If poaching does not come to an end
we will not have to worry about any of these animals, but they are to amazing
to be completely killed off.
The
poaching of tigers is one of the most popular ways to poach, and quite frankly,
it is also the easiest. Most poachers go
out with a high powered hunting rifle and just shoot those animals dead, in the world there are only 1,850 Bengal Tigers
left in the wild. The tiger pelts can
sell up to $35,000 per tiger and in the years of 1994-2009 there were 893 documented
cases of Bengal Tiger poaching, and God only knows how many were
undocumented. To put in perspective a
Bengal Tiger only has two to three pups every two to two and a half years, there
are not enough tigers for this to continue, and in those cases there were more
than one tigers poached. Bengal Tigers
are mainly killed for their hide and certain cuts of meat, but not too many,
and it can be too late to end poaching if we do not act now!
Poaching
has been officially illegal since B.C. times, and then, there has been a
literal war to end it. Present day India
is a hot spot for poaching and also many countries in Africa, and also some
parts of Asia. The tiger, in general, is
one of the most poached animals as well as the lynx, these cat’s pelts are
worth a fortune, and poachers know what they can get for them, so the hunt and
kill these harmless animals. The main
types of tigers that are poached are the Bengal Tiger of India and The Siberian
Tiger of Siberia, and their pelts fetch around the same amount of money (up to
$35,000), but it also depends on the size of the pelt also. The most common types of lynxes that are the
Canadian Lynx and of Canada and the Iberian Lynx of Iberian Peninsula in Southern Europe and their pelts fetch for about
$117 since 1990, but that is $117 too much because these animals deserve to
live and game wardens in those countries are trying to eradicate poaching for
all animals in countries around the world.
The sentence of a poaching charge can range from low numbers, to
multiple life sentences, but on average a poaching sentence is about 10-12
years, personally I do not think is enough years. Poaching has been going on for way to long,
and if you are a poacher, just remember you will get caught,
maybe not now, maybe never, but you and God know what you are
doing, so you can end now, or suffer the consequences.
Poaching has been a huge issue for
too long, one day of poaching was too long, but it has been going on for
literally thousands of years, and it does not look like it will come to an end
soon, but it needs too. From bush meat
all the way to poaching itself, the issue needs to come to an end, and if not,
then all those animals getting poached will not be poached anymore because
there will be no animals to poach. When you see all of those commercials
that say “It’s never too late to join the cause,” well when it comes to
poaching, there is a too late, so that means report any poacher you know
so this madness called poaching can finally end, and the Bengal Tigers, and
other poached animals can live a worry free life.
Poaching, a problem that nobody recognizes, except me and a handful of people. Before this essay gets into real depth, it will give a brief summary of what poaching is. Poaching is hunting an animal that does not have a season, or the animal has a season and a person is hunting it in the animal off-season. There are millions of people that do this all over the world, and poaching is not doing the trick to end poaching once and for all. There is a breed of tigers in India called the Bengal Tiger, and there are roughly 20,000 of those tigers left in existent, and it is all thanks to poachers. Wild life preserves are great, but they can only do so much to grow the population of Bengal Tigers, what we really need is more people in the effort to end poaching, so the Bengal Tigers and other animals do not go extinct. This is here to tell a person that wild life preserves are good, but poaching needs more people to join the effort to end it. Do you care about the animals lives?
Poaching
has been a problem even before laws and hunting seasons, but it was not
considered poaching, but the American Bison nearly went extinct because they
were used so much for their fur and meat.
Now there are laws and a certain season for the American Bison, and
another animal that nearly went extinct, believe it or not, is the Alligator
because of the same reason- minus the fur- now Alligators have a hunting
season. The African Elephant is being
currently poached for their tusks, ivory is worth about $500 per pound. Last
year in the world there was 39 million dollars of ivory sold all over
the world and the buyers did not now they were buying illegal tusks because
they were mainly eating wear. Many
pounds more were confiscated by officials; there is roughly 500,000 African
Elephants left in the world. Poaching is
a growing problem in the world that does not have an end in the near
future.
There are
many animals poached that people did not know were poached like Meir Cats and
Otters. Meir Cats have just now started to be poached for their meat because
statistics say the poachers sell them for $279.36 per pound on the black
market, and Meir Cats can weigh 2-6 pounds each. Otters are poached for their pelts, and are
sold to the wealthy for about $4,800-$7,400 depending on the size of the
pelt. Wild life preserves would love to
see poaching end, and so would I, so if you would, join the effort to end
poaching and save the Bengal Tigers, African Elephants, Meir Cats, and Otters
all around the world. Remember wild life
preserves can only do so much, but average people can do so much more to end
poaching, so please be one of those people.
Hypothesis: does the American public know what kind of
problem poaching is becoming, or do Americans know what poaching even is?

Research statement: I think the American people know what
poaching is, just to an extent, a very large one. The people that know what poaching is hit the
nail on the head with their answers and statements they gave because they knew
about the subject. The people that knew
little about the subject headed towards the general direction of what a problem
poaching is becoming, most likely knew more than they thought. All the people that did not know about
poaching either did the survey to the best of their abilities or just did not
take the survey at all. I got the
information I wanted because these statistics will help me in many ways like a
resolution to the problem or steps to take in ending poaching. Poaching is a very dangerous game and the
animals that are being poached just keep getting weirder and weirder. There are ways to end poaching, but the one
major method is to wipe out the poachers and bring them to justice.
I See
Poaching
I
am Mother Nature looking at the problem called poaching
I
see the problem that this is becoming
I
cannot do anything about it but watch, hope, and pray
This isn't a game any animal should play
This
happens on every continent
Soon
those continents will have no content
The
Bengal Tigers will soon be extinct
To
poachers this isn't very distinct
Mother Nature:
You
poachers must stop this madness
In
your attempt to kill these animals you are being completely heartless
You’re
only doing this for money with no respect
You
know what you’re doing is completely incorrect
Poacher:
I
don’t have to listen to you Mother Nature
It’s
survival of the fittest and I must endure
The
animals can fight back they’re not puny and weak
I
know for a fact they’re not bleak
So
why don’t they fight back?
I
think I’ll just hit it over the head, Wack!
Only
time will tell how this problem will turn out
This
issue it just makes me want to shout
Thump,
Thump; Thump, Thump I can hear the tigers flee
What’s that?
I
also here the tiger’s plea
All
I can do is watch, hope, and pray
This
is just one big fray
and
I know the victor
This
problem must come to an end
or
an eagle will never ever ascend
There
is only one way to resolve this problem
Completely
eliminate the poachers or animals being poached
Let’s
just end the poachers
But
for now all we can do is
Watch
Hope
and Pray
